Addressing climate change and food production

  • What do we know about food production and distribution and green house gas emissions on Vancouver Island?
  • What actions are underway to reduce GHG emissions due to agriculture on Vancouver Island?

Final Paper

This paper focuses on what changes we might expect in terms of climate change, how it relates to food security, and in particular the impacts it may have on Vancouver Island’s food system and the food security of Island residents. Contemporary food systems in Canada predominantly rely on imports from other nations, so in exploring the relationships between climate change and food security, it is important to look at both the global impacts as well as the local implications.
